West Bloomfield

Located in South-East Michigan, is sometimes referred to as the “lake township of Oakland County”, being heavily dotted with small and medium-sized lakes. Cass Lake, the largest lake in the county, is in part of West Bloomfield, and Pine Lake, which has a private country club on its shore, is only a few miles away from Cass and lies completely within West Bloomfield. In addition, directly west of Pine Lake is Orchard Lake, which also has a private country club on its shore. Orchard Lake Road runs north-south through the middle of the township and is the main artery of West Bloomfield’s economy, flanked on each side by long strip malls and shopping complexes.

West Bloomfield is located in southcentral Oakland County about 10 miles (20 km) to the northwest from the Detroit city limits and has borders with: Bloomfield Township to its east, Farmington Hills to its south, Commerce Township to its west, and four communities to its north: Waterford Township, Orchard Lake Village, Keego Harbor, and Sylvan Lake. West Bloomfield has several lakes that are large enough for water sports.  Lakes like Walnut and Pine Lake have attracted affluent buyers since the early 1900′s.  Detroiter’s used to come out and camp on the weekends on the local lakes.  West Bloomfield Michigan has hundreds of acres of parks and recreation areas.  The community has many activities and classes throughout the year to keep the residents busy.  The West Bloomfield Trail is a 54 acre linear park that meanders for nearly 7 miles through West Bloomfield, Orchard Lake, Keego Harbor and Sylvan Lake.  

Orchard Lake Rd that is in the center of the township and Haggerty Rd on the west side of the community is where you will find most of the stores that you are used to.  You can usually find what you want within a 5 to 10 minute ride of your home.

Most of the growth in West Bloomfield has occurred since the 1960’s.  So you will find that most of the homes are newer and not over 50 years old.

The primary school district serving the township is the West Bloomfield School District, which was recognized as one of the top public school districts in the country. A total of seven school districts serve various portions of West Bloomfield (West Bloomfield, Farmington, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Walled Lake, Pontiac and Waterford).

West Bloomfield High School and Jewish Academy of Metropolitan Detroit are the two high schools located within the township.
